Making a mirror actually look like a mirror

This is where mirrors surprise people: Revit’s Shaded and Realistic view styles do not compute true reflections, so a mirror will read as a flat grey panel no matter how you set it up. Reflection only appears in rendered output — Ray Trace view or a full render — and only if the material has a suitably high reflectivity and a smooth finish. If your mirror looks wrong, the material is almost always the culprit rather than the family. Mounting height matters too: a standard wall mirror sits with its centre near eye level, and above a washbasin the bottom edge usually clears the backsplash and any tapware behind it. Most mirrors here are wall-hosted, so they follow their wall when the layout changes — convenient for repeated bathroom cores, but it means they will not place in a view where the host wall is hidden.

Are these Revit mirror families free?
Yes. Most files are free to download with a registered account. A Premium subscription removes limits and unlocks the full library.

Why doesn’t my mirror reflect anything?
Revit only calculates reflections in rendered and Ray Trace views. In Shaded or Realistic mode a mirror appears as a flat surface, which is expected behaviour rather than a fault in the family.

Are the mirrors wall-hosted?
Most are, so they move with their host wall. Freestanding and full-length models are non-hosted and can be placed anywhere.
