Free Revit Door Families for Interior and Exterior Openings

Our Revit door families collection covers everything a door schedule can throw at you: single and double leaf doors, sliding and pocket doors, bifold and folding units, fully glazed and partially glazed designs, entrance doors with sidelights, garage and roller doors, and interior doors in timber, PVC and aluminium finishes. Formats and Revit compatibility

Almost every file is a .rfa loadable family placed with Insert > Load Family; some packs arrive as .rvt projects you open beside your model to copy the door types you need. The download page states the version each file was saved in — Revit upgrades older families automatically but cannot open one saved in a newer release.

Placing and documenting doors in Revit

Doors carry more documentation weight than almost any other family — they appear in plans, schedules and accessibility reviews at once. Points worth checking with downloaded files:

• Mind the hand and swing. Flip controls change hinge side and swing direction after placement, but review your plans early: door handing affects furniture layouts, switch positions and egress, and correcting it late touches every one of them.
• Measure clear width, not leaf width. Accessibility rules care about the clear opening with the door at 90°, which is smaller than the nominal leaf. If the family only reports leaf width, add a shared parameter for clear width before it reaches your schedule.
• Curtain wall doors are a different animal. A door in a curtain wall is a panel family, not a wall-hosted one — you swap a curtain panel for it instead of placing it with the door tool. Files in this category are standard hosted doors unless the title says otherwise.
• Keep plan representation light. Good door families draw the leaf and swing as symbolic lines in plan rather than cut 3D geometry — it reads cleaner at 1:100 and regenerates faster in big models.
• Check what the tag can read. If your door tags pull fire rating, frame material or undercut, confirm the family exposes those as parameters — adding them across two hundred placed instances later is the slow way.

Which Revit version do I need?
Each download page lists the version the family was saved in. Revit opens and upgrades files from older releases, but a family saved in a newer version will not open in yours.

Can I use these doors in commercial projects?
Yes. They are reference models for architectural documentation, not certified manufacturer data. Verify dimensions, fire ratings and hardware against the specified product before construction.
