Casework or Furniture? The choice affects your schedules

Storage units land on one of two Revit categories, and which one matters more than it looks. Casework is intended for built-in joinery — fitted kitchen units, wardrobes, reception counters — and schedules alongside the construction. Furniture is for loose items that arrive after handover. A wardrobe modeled as Furniture will quietly disappear from your casework schedule, and a loose sideboard on Casework will inflate your joinery package. Check the family’s category after loading and be consistent across the project. Beyond that, look for parametric width and depth: a single cabinet family that stretches to fit a run is worth ten fixed-size downloads, and it keeps the model tidy when the layout inevitably shifts by 50 mm.

Should cabinets be Casework or Furniture in Revit?
Built-in joinery belongs on Casework; loose, movable pieces on Furniture. Keeping this consistent is what makes joinery and furniture schedules separate cleanly.

Can I resize a cabinet to fit my layout?
Parametric families expose width, height and depth as type parameters. Fixed-geometry models need editing in the Family Editor.
